Honey Bees

Honey bees are essential eusocial insects (genus Apis) known for pollinating crops, producing honey, and living in large, structured colonies of up to 50,000+ individuals. A single hive consists of one queen, many female workers, and male drones.

Inspections

Bee inspections are essential, regular check-ups performed every 10–14 days during spring and summer to ensure colony health, check for queenright status, monitor food stores, and manage swarm risk. Inspections involve opening the hive, removing frames, and checking for disease, pests like varroa, and a healthy, laying queen.

Kids love them

Honey bees are crucial, non-aggressive pollinators for kids to learn about, rather than fear.  They rarely sting unless defending their hive and only sting once. Teaching kids to remain calm, avoid swatting, and understand their role in nature helps build respect for the environment
